I will be releasing a more detailed analysis of the 2023 executions in the next week or so, as well as an analysis of why the 2023 Gallup death penalty polling numbers, which reflect a half-century low in support for capital punishment, provide strong evidence that 1990s-style partisan rhetoric attempting to stoke voters’ fear of crime no longer drives public opinion on the death penalty or general-election support for political candidates.
