Interview with Death Penalty Action

A review of 2023 and a look at the state of the U.S. Death Penalty in 2024

On December 1, I sat down with Death Penalty Action’s Abe Bonowitz for a discussion of the state of the U.S. death penalty at the end of 2023 and where it is going in 2024 and beyond. I’ve posted a link to the video on the new Death Penalty Policy Project Facebook page, as well as on my Twitter feed at @RDunhamDP.

Or you just can just click this YouTube link and watch it here.

I will be releasing a more detailed analysis of the 2023 executions in the next week or so, as well as an analysis of why the 2023 Gallup death penalty polling numbers, which reflect a half-century low in support for capital punishment, provide strong evidence that 1990s-style partisan rhetoric attempting to stoke voters’ fear of crime no longer drives public opinion on the death penalty or general-election support for political candidates.

The Death Penalty Policy Project (“DP3”) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization housed within the Phillips Black Inc. public interest legal practice. DP3 provides information, analysis, and critical commentary on capital punishment and the role the death penalty plays in mass incarceration in the United States.
